Discover an exotic-looking perennial with a surprisingly hardy nature in Tricyrtis hirta! Also known as Japanese toad lily, this fascinating perennial produces sprays of delicate, star-shaped white flowers heavily spotted with purple, creating an intricate display from late summer into autumn. The blooms are carried along upright to gently arching stems above attractive, hairy, lance-shaped foliage. Particularly valuable for bringing colour and interest to shady borders and woodland-style planting, it flowers at a time when many other perennials are beginning to fade. Its unusual orchid-like flowers make it a wonderful conversation piece, while the compact clump-forming habit allows it to nestle beautifully among ferns and other shade-loving plants. Tricyrtis hirta is a superb late-season performer with bags of character. Ultimate height: 75cm (29in). Ultimate spread: 60cm (24in).
