Equisetum scirpoides (Marginal Aquatic)

Equisetum scirpoides, often referred to as dwarf horsetail or dwarf scouring rush, is a fascinating evergreen plant that stands out in the world of marginal flora. Characterized by its slender, dark green stems, this unique species features unbranched, segmented stalks adorned with distinctive black-ringed joints. These stems grow in dense, wiry clumps that can twist and coil, creating an eye-catching display. Dwarf horsetail thrives in environments with moist to wet soils and demonstrates remarkable adaptability, even tolerating shallow standing water. This resilience makes it an excellent choice for gardeners looking to enhance the aesthetic appeal of their aquatic spaces. While Equisetum scirpoides is less invasive compared to its larger horsetail relatives, it is still advisable to cultivate it in contained environments, such as ponds, where its growth can be effectively managed. This intriguing plant not only contributes to the visual interest of smaller ponds but also brings a touch of charm to tub gardens, especially during the winter months when many other plants have gone dormant. Its evergreen nature ensures that it remains a vibrant part of the landscape year-round, making it a valuable addition for those seeking to create a dynamic and engaging garden space.Height: 20cm (8in).
