Colutea media 'Copper Beauty'

An interesting bushy shrub that produces very attractive foliage, unusual seed pods and eye-catching blooms in a rarely-seen colour. Colutea media ?Copper Beauty? is a vigorous variety with blueish-green foliage on ladder-like stems of 5-6 leaflets. From early summer, racemes of pea-like, burnt orange blooms with yellow spots will burst into colour and are followed by stunning, red-green seed pods that measure around 8cm in length. As the seeds ripen the pods will inflate and create a loud 'pop' when squeezed, making them fun for inquisitive children! Colutea media ?Copper Beauty? is fuss-free and ideal for dry, sunny borders with free-draining soil. It can be kept more compact by pruning after the blooms have faded. A pollution-resistant plant that is well-suited to urban gardens and will also happily grow on dry banks and coastal areas.Height and spread: 3m (10ft).
