Athyrium niponicum 'Pictum'

Athyrium niponicum var. pictum, affectionately known as the Japanese Painted Fern, truly lives up to its name with its stunningly beautiful fronds. These delicate leaves unfurl gracefully, often reaching a nearly horizontal position that allows their striking colours to shine. The fronds exhibit a soft silvery-grey hue, which is elegantly complemented by the rich maroon-purple midribs that run through them. This combination creates a visual feast for the eyes, making the fern a standout feature in any garden setting. Its deciduous nature and low, creeping growth habit enable it to spread gradually, forming lush clusters that enhance the overall aesthetic of the landscape.Ideal for those damp, shaded areas of the garden, the Japanese Painted Fern thrives in neutral to acidic soils, making it a versatile choice for various planting conditions. It is particularly well-suited for woodland gardens, where it can blend seamlessly with other shade-loving plants, or even in the boggy soil found at the edges of a shaded pond. The fern not only adds texture and depth to these environments but also brings a sense of tranquility and elegance. With its unique coloration and graceful form, Athyrium niponicum var. pictum is a delightful addition that can transform any shaded nook into a serene retreat.Height: 30cm (12). Spread: 120cm (47).
